For design principals, the search for exceptional craft is a constant pursuit. It’s a process built on relationships, research, and a bit of serendipity. Now, that process is about to become much more direct: Homo Faber, the organization dedicated to championing contemporary craftsmanship, is officially launching in the United States, bringing its powerful network and resources to the American design community.

Presented by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, Homo Faber is already a vital part of the design landscape in Europe. Its arrival in the U.S. marks a significant moment, creating a more robust bridge between the world’s leading designers and a vetted global community of master artisans.

For DLN members, the most immediate and impactful tool is the Homo Faber Guide. Described as the “Michelin Guide of craft,” this digital platform is a curated directory of over 5,000 artisans from more than 55 countries. The Guide is more than just a list; it’s a practical sourcing tool that allows designers to discover, connect with, and commission craftspeople whose work represents the highest level of excellence.

The new U.S. expansion adds more than 200 American masters to this roster. As Alberto Cavalli, Executive Director of the Michelangelo Foundation, notes, “As a powerhouse of contemporary craftsmanship, the USA has a vital role to play in shaping our work.”

The launch also reinforces a shared commitment to stewardship. The annual Homo Faber Fellowship pairs emerging talents with master artisans for a six-month co-creation process, and for the first time, American artisans will be eligible to host fellows in their studios.

This new proximity to Homo Faber’s ecosystem is a welcome development. It provides a powerful, vetted resource for discovering talent and reinforces the DLN’s core belief in championing community, collaboration, and the enduring value of master craftsmanship.
